Muscle Gain

Most research into exercise and nutritional needs has been done on men, especially college age men. But women, especially in the past 25 years, have increasingly been involved in exercise and sports. For example: Professional leagues currently exist in women's basketball, volleyball, tennis and golf, with more to come.

Research on women and exercise have to take into account the gender differences affecting exercise, including the differences in fiber type distribution and cross section, and the effects of training on these differences. The same training in both men and women does not give rise to the same increases in muscle mass. Men are invariably able to add much more muscle mass than women.
